It’s that time of year again, the people of Saskatoon are coming together in support of the community services and programs happening inside every room at the YWCA, through a charitable program called “Adopt a Room”.
Through the YWCA Adopt a Room program, individuals and businesses are able to pledge a charitable gift and adopt one of several rooms at in the YWCA facility. The campaign is being promoted by 98COOL Radio as a way to involve your workplace, friends or family for a group gift. Held over the holiday season, the campaign raises much needed financial support for services provided year-long.
For many small or mid-sized businesses, adopting a room is a meaningful way of making a holiday gift. Glen Hufsmith of Affinity Insurance found that the Adopt a Room gift from the Lakewood and Hampton Village offices has become a new holiday tradition of giving. Instead of giving clients Christmas gifts, the Affinity Insurance agencies make a charitable gift that gives back to the community.
Choosing to make an Adopt a Room charitable gift also provides a business with an inclusive way to go beyond a Christmas celebration and honour many faiths in our multicultural community during the festive season.
Last year’s Adopt a Room program made an extended impact well into the new year and made a difference for many women and families who turned to the YWCA when they were experiencing hardship.
“When women and families in our community face hardship and poverty, YWCA Saskatoon helps provide emergency shelter and a fresh start,” said Fisher. “The focus of our mission is the well-being of women, girls and families.”
This year’s Adopt a Room charitable program will accomplish a great deal: providing safe haven for women and families in crisis, counselling, supports for women entering the trades, early learning programs for children, and accessible health and wellness programs. Designated gifts are welcome.
